Local Flavor Café

What is there not to like about Local Flavor? Just the name of the place is a brilliant example of naming a business. But enough about the name let's talk about food!

I don't make it to Local Flavor much for breakfast but when I do I am held over for the rest of the day.

Eggs should be eaten over easy and that's the way they always come to my table, of course you can get them cooked your way too, but why? Nice thick slices of bacon, biscuit, golden fried potatoes, coffee and juice that makes for a breakfast to satisfy any appetite. You can also get sausage or ham. Not much on meat for breakfast? Save some cash and leave off the meat.

Several choice of breakfast pies (quiche) are available from vegetarian to combinations of meat and veggies.

Huevos Rancheros, Mexican Scramble (3 scrambled eggs with green chilis, onions, and eggs), omelettes, French Toast and fresh fruit plates round out the breakfast offerings.

Sunday brunch specials such as, Eggs Benedict, Shrimp/Feta Omelette, French Toast stuffed with cream cheese and fresh fruit.

You have several salad choices, some being full meals by their selves. The Greek Salad, a house salad with Greek olives, peppers and feta comes to your table heaped on the plate. My personal favorite is the Lemon Chicken Caesar served with a loaf of pumpernickle bread that I could make a meal of alone.

A Grilled Salmon Caesar is the perfect alternative to the chicken version when your in the mood for fish.

A Chef Salad, a house salad with tortellini and fresh veggies know as a Tortellini Salad, a regular house salad, soup and salad and homemade chili or soup of the day finish off the salad section. I recently had a cup of potato with green chili that was amazing, a little thick for my taste, but that's just me. It was a perfect warm-up on a cold winter day.

Several sandwiches such as classic favorties, Bar-B-Q Beef, French Dip, Ruben, B.L.T. are availabe for lunch. Local Flavor's own recipes give us Italian Beef, Local Beef, Local Chicken, Turkey or Veggie Reuben.

I recently had the Chicken Santa Fe, pita bread stuffed with sauted chicken, guacamole-ranch, bacon, pepper-jack cheese, salsa and sour cream. it also comes in a beef, veggie or black bean versions.

Everybody likes burgers and Local Flavor doesn't disappoint there either. Again several standards are offered as well as a Guacamole Pepper Jack Burger, Black Bean Burger and a Garden Burger.

Add to your sandwich one of the sides and you have a meal.

Now dinner, that's my favorite time to dine at Local Flavor. Many of the soup, salad and sandwich items carry over from lunch into dinner.

Tender chicken breasts covered with sauteed mushrooms,artichoke hearts and mozzarela cheese gets christened Grilled Chicken Milan. Grilled Salmon with Raspberry Barbecue sauce, Tortellini in an extremely rich seasoned cream sauce gives you several chicken, shrimp, and veggie choices to add to the basic tortellini.

Pan Seared Tilapia served with a roasted red bell pepper sauce is one of the most fabulous things I have ever tasted in my life. It comes with a side salad, seasoned black beans and trotilla chips.

On a recent visit I overheard another patron refer to the Prime Rib as the best he's ever had. Unfortunately I can't make the same claim. Not that there's anything wrong with it, I've just had Prime Rib that I have liked better at other places, but the accompanying fresh steamed broccolli makes up for that fact to provide a satisfying meal.

The wait staff is friendly and courteous and takes good care of their customers. You can dine inside the small intimate dining room, the newly added room with wall length windows for a great view of the goings on out in the street. In nice weather there's even a deck with tables for those who wish to enjoy their meal right out in the hustle and bustle of downtown Eureka Springs.
