Valentine’s Day Meets Eureka Gras…
Result: Perfect Couple’s Getaways
In 2020, two of Eureka Springs’ most special and enjoyable events meet on the February calendar. Everyone is familiar with the romantic getaway to this mountain village to celebrate Valentine’s day, marked this year by the Annual Chocolate Festival at the Eureka Springs Community Center on Saturday, February 15. At this event you can get a luscious taste of the products of local chocolatiers, a sweet start to a lovers’ weekend. By the way, many local restaurants offer Valentine special dining experiences both Friday and Saturday evenings.
Added this year to the festival of the heart -thanks to lunar juxtaposition- are local Mardi Gras activities. This local “Fat Tuesday” festival, known as Eureka Gras offers a plethora of fun activities for couples wanting a truly memorable getaway.
For starters, after you have recovered from your chocolate high on Saturday, you can get ready to see the light and catch some beads. The evening of February 15 is the Annual Eureka Springs Mardi Gras Parade of Lights. Floats, convertibles, marching musicians and a lot of purple, gold and green festooned characters parade down Spring Street through Downtown. These folks throw out a lot of beads as they glisten past enthusiastic throngs of people on the sides of the street. So, put on your mask and get ready for fun.
But don’t take that mask off quite yet. After the last parade unit passes by that evening, get ready to glow at the Annual Black Light Ball. Downtown’s Chelsea’s Corner -just a short walk from downtown lodging- invites you to wear your most luminescent ensemble and party hearty as the band plays great music for dancing the night away. Laissez les bon temps rouler!
If your special February getaway can’t get away until the following weekend, never fear… there will be enough activity for the two of you to create lifetime memories. Starting with yet another Eureka Gras parade the Saturday afternoon of February 22.
The Mardi Gras Day Parade travels right through downtown Eureka Springs. Once again, the floats, convertibles, musicians and festive people stroll along, throwing beads, and wishing all well. Dress as wild as you want and don those masks because it is a wild affair New Orleans’ style.
And speaking of New Orleans, the tastes of the French Quarter are served up in the Crystal Dining Room of the 1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa during their Jazz Brunch on Sunday, February 23. Chef Tommy pulls out all of the stops for a fantastic and festive feed. Bring your umbrella because during breaks from the buffet you will be invited to join in the traditional second lining to the strains of live jazz. You’ll go away feeling full and in high spirits
So, this February celebrate with your special someone in Arkansas’ “extraordinary escape” community. Love awaits.
PLEASE NOTE: Many of these Eureka Gras events sell out, so be sure to get your tickets early. For more information go to http://www.eurekaspringsmardigras.org/. And if you want that special room to share with your valentine, it is best to book that room early as well.
