More Than a Play

the great passion play in eureka springs

From various points of Eureka Springs and the surrounding Ozarks, you can see a large white statue of Christ with outstretched arms. While this stands as a welcome to those visiting the region, it also marks the location of The Great Passion Play. Since 1968 this organization has delivered inspiring performances…but that is not all that is happening off of Passion Play Road these days.

While the main play takes place at 8:30 PM, the museums and gift shop open up in the morning starting at 10:00 AM. Why not make a day of it and get there early. Start with a classic picture with the whole family in front of the statue and spend time exploring the nature trails around the facility. When you are in need of a little AC, check out the various museums which boast a vast display of religious articles and art. Once your tire of walking through the museums, take a break and check out the Israeli bomb shelter that was recently donated and a section of the Berlin Wall. Walk right up to both and learn more about what is going on around the world.

After a morning of exploring on your own, join the Backstage Tour and see exactly how the play comes to life. Check out the sets and barn area– you’ll even get to see how the special effects work. Following the tour, a buffet is available for those who want to eat before the play.

Leading up to the play are two free performances “Parables of the Potter” and “David the Shepherd” that tie into the big performance at 8:30. Seating for the Passion Play is first come, first seated. With over 4,000 seats you are sure to have your pick of up-close to see all the details or back row to see the big-picture of the “Greatest Story Ever Told.”
