 1. Arkansas’ Superb White River

The White River tailwaters continue earning a reputation for their trophy brown trout fishing, producing some trout into the 20-40 pound range. In a Trout Unlimited member survey (Trout magazine, Summer, 1998), the White River rated in the top 20 of 101 Best Trout Streams in the country by more than 1,200 respondents. Ranking as eleventh, among such streams as the Henry’s Fork, San Juan, Upper Yellowstone, and the Bighorn, the White was noted for its big browns. An easy drive from Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Illinois, Tennessee, and other neighboring states, the White River provides excellent drift boat fly-fishing opportunities for trout in the mid-south.

2. Beaver Tailwater

Beaver Dam, near Eureka Springs, Arkansas, is the first dam in the tailwater chain to provide a cold water fishery along the White River. Beaver Tailwater is a model experimental tailwater. It was the first fishery in Arkansas subject to special brown trout regulations, and it is also the site of the first cooperative federal, state, and private trout habitat restoration project in the nation. This tailwater is a superb fishery for novices and beginners, offering  both rainbow and brown trout.

  1. Lake Leatherwood Trails

Leatherwood City Park is 1,600 acres of pristine Ozark Mountain countryside with an 85-acre spring-fed lake, beautiful walking and cycling trails for all ages and skill sets, camping, cabins and a small marina for boating, canoes, kayaks and paddle boats. Leatherwood Park also boasts a playground, RV sites with full hookups and tent sites with and without electricity. The lake is formed by one of the largest hand-cut native limestone dams in the country. The dam and several structures at the park were built in the early 1940s by the WPA and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Open March 1 thru mid-November. So whether you want to take a leisurely stroll, go kayaking, enjoy a picnic by the lake or experience the thrill of the new downhill mountain bike course, it’s all here for you! (and bring the fur babies~Leatherwood is pet friendly!)

2. Black Bass Lake

A peaceful and welcoming park just minutes from downtown that seems like it’s  a whole different world from the hustle and bustle of the world. Black Bass Lake is perfect for leisurely hiking, biking, fishing or even a picnic while enjoying the natural flora and fauna of the area. Picture yourself enjoying butterflies, dragonflies and a blissful clear blue-green lake surrounded by stunning bluffs! This park is sure to put you back in touch with the spirit of nature without exhausting your’s!
